Dear Burr Readers–
I know that all of you are involved in reading a book that you really like. I would like to ask you to comment on the following question about a book that you are currently reading: What gift would you like to give the main character? Why?
I have been reading several great books over that last few weeks, and would like to give the following gifts to these main characters:
In Frog and Toad Are Friends, I would like to give Toad the gift of optimism because if he had a glass that was filled halfway with milk, he would saythat the glass was half-empty instead of half-full. I would like him to be able to enjoy each day instead of feeling grumpy and worrying a lot of the time.
In The Chalk Box Kid, I would like Gregory to be proud of his talent and to have the courage to share his talent with others.
Gentle Annie is a story of a Civil War Nurse, and I think that I would like to give Annie the new medicines that we now have so that she could use them to help the soldiers that she was caring for.
In From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, I would like Claudia to keep her sense of adventure so that she will continue to discover new and exciting things about herself and the world.
In Letters from Rifka, I wish that Rifka and her family could live without prejudice and fear so that they could live together in peace; and in Maniac Magee, I would like to give Maniac a real home and address where he feels safe and loved.
Please comment on these or any book that you are reading and write what gift you would like to give to a main character and why.
Hello world!
Dear Burr Community–
Welcome to Mrs. Glidden’s Language Arts Chat site!
I would love to hear from you about what you are reading this summer and thought that this would be a great way for us to “talk” about our reading.
Here is my idea: I will ask you questions about what you are reading and you can write back to me. Maybe someone else will be reading the same book or will have an idea about a different book that they are reading that is similar to yours or mine. Then, that person will share his or her thinking and we can respond. How does that sound?
Let’s begin and see how it goes, okay? PLEASE CLICK ON “Dear Burr Readers” ON THE RIGHT FOR THE FIRST QUESTION.
